  Weather change influences crop production
A change-weather in the growing areas has brought about an increase in supply of fresh   commodities like matooke, Irish potatoes and cassava. This has caused a fall in prices   especially for matooke and Irish potatoes. However this is partly blamed on decrease in   consumption of the commodity at retail level on change in preferences to save money for school   fees and recovery from the festive season. Retail prices fall between Ush 450-500 depending on   supply and location of the purchase. Prices of cassava and Irish potatoes however remain stable   because of their stable demand, prices are at 38,000Ush for sack of Mbarara grown Irish and   35,000 for fresh cassava.

Other items like sorghum, ginger and millet reflect slight decreases especially at lorry price   because of favourable weather. Sorghum flour sold for averagely Ush 400/Kg in both markets at   off lorry price. Ginger continues to fetch a good price in all Kampala markets at Ush.1,600-   2,000 per kilo depending on location or point of sale. Supply of ginger has stabilized since the   crop was sometimes back hit by disease that significantly reduced production. Rice prices   recorded an increase during the festive season and have since remained stable at Ush 1300-  1400per kg at whole sale for a good grade of super at Owino market. Transit traders in Owino   market were very sure that there is an increase in fresh commodity supply especially to Kampala   as a result of good weather in the growing areas.
