CEEWA-U has undertaken research and surveys on various subjects using mainly participatory  methodologies such as Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRA) and Focus Group Discussions.  CEEWA-U 's members have expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies  and have undertaken the following research studies.

Research on the Relevance and Effectiveness of Agricultural Extension Services to the Gender  Differentiated Activities and Needs of smallholder farmers, 1998/99
The goal of the study was to establish the status of extension service provision in Uganda. The  study was undertaken in the districts of Apac, Mukono, Kabale, Hoima and Tororo. The study  highlighted important aspects explaining why extension services were ineffective, in spite of the  national resources that were allocated to promote transformation in the agricultural sector. The  study also recommended an urgent need for extension services to ensure that the Plan for  Modernization of Agriculture (PMA) is effective.

Baseline study to identify information and training needs for entrepreneurship development  (2000)
CEEWA-U undertook a baseline study whose goal was to understand the existing situation of  women entrepreneurs in three project sites regarding their information and training needs for  entrepreneurship development. As a result of the study, CEEWA-U recognized that ICT is vital  tool for economic empowerment.  organisations that promote enterprise development to exploit Information Communication  Technologies (ICTs) for community economic empowerment. CEEWA-U would like to replicate the  experience and best practices of the ICT project for the benefit of rural women farmers.
CEEWA-U (1999) Baseline survey on MFI lending methodologies, institutional sustainability and   clients' needs
The study was done to assess the extent to which Micro Finance Institutions, their methodologies  and products are able to become financially sustainable while meeting clients' needs. The  findings were that MFIs depend on donor grant funding, which has encouraged them to adopt  micro -finance best practices in order to compete for funding.
The study further revealed the need to recognise the importance of clients' needs especially of  acquiring meaningful assets.

Gender and Economic Decision Making: Needs Assessment of Policy Makers - 1998
The overall objective of the study was to promote economic gender analysis orientation for  female/male leaders in an effort to build capacity for integrating gender concerns into decision  making. The study was carried out from seven institutions basing on their relative importance in  economic decision-making in Uganda. One of the needs that were expressed was skill and or  tool on 'how-to' apply gender analysis in the day-to-day policy and programme activities. As a  result, CEEWA-U developed a gender sensitisation manual, which has been successfully tested at  both the National and District levels.
